Super Mario Bros 2

Posted by jmtb02 - March 4th, 2008

I love Super Mario Bros 2. I am in the process of mastering this game, by achieving (hopefully) some sort of record in the game, either by a speed run with/without warps or whatever I can achieve. Currently I can get to 7-2 in 12 minutes, 30 seconds... which is pretty fast but not yet fast enough to be awesome. The world record for completion is sub 9 minutes, 15 seconds... but I am getting closer each day. I practice for about 30 minutes a day, but I might bump the regiment as I make the final push to beat the game faster and faster.

I have been practicing worlds 1-1 to 4-2 for the past 2 months. While I have very modest practice in 6-1 and above, I can still beat the game in a pretty good time. Hopefully once I master world 6 and 7, we'll see some sub 10 minutes going through.

You're a cool guy. <3

I totally cannot tell if you are being sarcastic :).

Wow, I guess you're going for the record then, good luck ;P.

I never liked this game. It feels like it doesn't belong to the mario series, kinda like Zelda 2. It's not really a bad game but I just can't stand having to throw turnips at enemies and all that fancy stuff. Good luck on the speed run though :)

Oh ho! That's because it doesn't! It was a reskinned game, from a Famicom game called Doki Doki Panic. Nintendo wanted to sell it as Mario 2 here, so they reskinned it with Mario characters.

The bushes in Super Mario Bros. were just recolored clouds.

This may be obvious, but since you're speed running the game, I assume you're familiar with The speed run site of the web, speed demo archives (<a href="http://speeddemosarchive.com/">http://speeddemosarchive.com/</a>)? It has a page dedicated to Super Mario II (<a href="http://speeddemosarchive.com/Mario2.html">http://speeddemosarchive.com/Mario2.h tml</a>) and you should check out the forums too.

But I imagine you already know all this, right?

Btw, you are a great games maker and deserve salutations and kudos for all the great games you've made in the past!

Tool-Assisted speedrun or not?
